Hyde – 1
Hebron – 4
The Phoenix finally lifted a scoreless curse during their recent battle against Hebron in front of a home field crowd. After an unfortunate early goal from a Lumberjack break away, the two teams appeared evenly matched as play moved from end to end. Hebron was able to find the back of the net again mid-way through the first half but was answered ten minutes later when senior striker Olivia Griffing ’14 notched the season’s first goal on a header from a beautifully served ball from Carolyn Moore ’14. The goal lifted the team’s spirits as they continued to build momentum to half.
Down by one, the team returned to the field looking for the equalizer but was discouraged when Hebron scored again only six minutes in. Five minutes later, the Lumberjacks would score their fourth and final goal of the game. Despite being down by three, Hyde began to rally, generating several scoring attempts. Rachel Wikman ’17 debuted as a flank striker and did an outstanding job. Lutes Bartlett ’16, another JV recruit, worked incredibly hard on the opposite side. Other stand outs included senior Sonya Kobayashi ’14 who returned to outside back, and Olivia Griffing ’14 at striker, both of whom worked tirelessly.
