Hyde School 1
Gould Academy 1
Boys Varsity Soccer traveled to Bethel Maine to play a match with Gould Academy on Saturday. The game was played on natural grass under clear skies and warm temperatures.
These two teams matched up well from the start, with both clubs moving the ball and defending well. Hyde initially played more of a possession based game, with midfielders Kiefer Cundy`15 and Wilson MacMillan`14 doing a good job of moving the ball through the middle of the field. However, the Gould defensive players kept our forwards off balance enough to disrupt the few promising chances we had to score. They frequently cleared the ball down field to their attacking players who managed to get some decent shots off. However, keeper Noah Horning`15 make a couple of great saves to preserve the 0-0 score at half time.
Gould scored in the 65th minute to go up 1-0. The Hyde boys maintained focus and continued to pressure their opponents and create scoring opportunities. With just under 10 minutes of time remaining, stopper Dow Drukker`15 battled with a Gould player for possession of the ball near half field. After a back and forth scrap, he came away with the ball and passed it to the feet of center midfielder Kiefer Cundy`15 who then passed it out to the right flank to Cole Faulkner`15. Faulkner`15 settled the ball near the top of the box and made a beautiful shot into the side netting of the far post. The whole team worked hard for the remainder of the match and came away with the tie. Our next match is Wednesday the 2nd at Berwick Academy.
