Girls JV Soccer
The Hyde Phoenix Girl’s JV Soccer Team secured a well-played victory against Hebron Academy this Saturday. Sophomore Luttes Bartlett ’16 claimed our first goal with the support of several members of her team. Junior Natalya Roman ’15 landed us our second goal with a great shot from the far right.Natalya kept up the aggression throughout the game, leading the team forward as right striker.
Sophomore Diamond Brown ’16 continues to dominate in her role as keeper, blocking all shots on goal except a tough PK kick, Hebron’s only point for the game. Backing her up was a great rotating set of defenders that included sophomore GiGi Chen ’16, senior and co-captain Hayley Mandel ’14, freshmanAnna Presson ’17, and freshmen Abbie Ward ’17. Freshmen Finaly Doyle ’17 also did a tremendous job in defense, booting the ball far and away from our goal time and again.
Every member of the Girl’s JV Soccer team got some play time today. Sophomore Nili McCoy ’16 was on the field while her mom, participating with Nili in our first FLC, looked on. Senior Brianna Reeves-Eliopoulis ‘14, also participating in this weekend’s FLC, was joined by her grandparents Bruce and Polly who came out to watch Bri tear up the field! PG Eliana Goldberg ’14 and junior Cristina Boeckel ’15 (another FLCer) both made it up with their moms as well. The support from all these parents certainly boosted our spirits!
Freshmen Cherry Weng ’17 lent her consistent talent throughout the game, putting up great defensive and offensive pressure. Freshmen Rachel Wikman ’17 continues to impress with her footwork and managed to keep many attempts on our goal at bay.
Finally, a special shout out to senior Melissa McMahon ’14, junior Cristina Boeckel ’15, and seniorBrianna Reeves-Eliopoulis ’14 for their help in assisting first-time soccer coaches Sam Jonynas and Corey DeGiacomo who filled in for coaches Emma Lobozzo and Rose Dorian, both away attending the wedding of fellow faculty member Jennifer Morse. These girls were a tremendous help in organizing the team, starting warm-ups, and familiarizing their new coaches with the common parlance. It was a great day for the Girl’s JV Soccer team with a great win to bring back.
