Bronx 9th Graders Go Into The Woods

The rising 9th graders from Hyde-Bronx participated in their annual Wilderness Trip to Eustis, Maine in August. This trip has become a tradition for the students entering high school at Hyde –Bronx. It gives the students a unique opportunity to challenge themselves individually and as a group in the Maine woods. The 5-day, 4-night trip (itinerary below) introduces the idea that high school offers a new set of opportunities and responsibilities for a Hyde student. Each year the trip is co-facilitated by members of the faculties of Hyde-Bronx and Hyde-Bath.

The trip included activities familiar to members of the Hyde community. Each one is planned to ask the students to dig deep into themselves to understand what their best looks like in situations that are often new and uncomfortable. The group canoed, sang songs, hiked mountains and tackled a ropes course, mentioning only a few of the group’s adventures.
