Hyde : 4
St. Andrews: 1
The Hyde Wolfpack hosted St. Andrews on Monday’s cool afternoon. For the first time this season, the Girls Varsity Soccer Team was all in attendance. The match started with the ball mostly being controlled in Hyde’s defensive zone. After several opportunities, St. Andrews was able to sneak a goal past keeper, Hui-Ling Seow ’15 with less than twenty minutes remaining in the first half. Janicha Diaz ’14 and the Hyde offense had several scoring opportunities of their own. With just over seven minutes remaining in the first half, Diaz connected with Destin Oliveira ’14, who got her first goal of the season.
The teams took the field for the second half with the scoreboard reading: 1-1. Hyde put the pressure on St. Andrews early, keeping the ball in the offensive zone for the majority of the half. With just over ten minutes into the second half, Grace Briggs ’14 had a great thru pass to Janicha Diaz ’14 who finished for a goal with a one-on-one with the keeper. Eight minutes later, it was Virginia Garrity ’14 with the pass to Diaz for her second goal of the game. To top off Hyde’s first win in over a year, Oliveira and Diaz connected again to seal the win for Hyde and a hat-trick for Diaz.
The excitement from the girls leaving the field was unmatched. The well-deserved win will prove to be the first of more as the Wolfpack continues their season. Wednesday will be another test, as they travel to Wheeler.
