We arrived at Canterbury under cloudy skies and slight rain, perfect cool running conditions. The energy in the air was palpable at this large race as well over 200 runners from 29 prep schools warmed up on the various fields.
Hyde girls were up first with Lana, Lizzie, Tiffany, and Mandy representing our crew. The gun went of for the Division II girls race and our Hyde girls started out on what was a challenging course.
Early on Mandy felt some foot pain and despite her best effort had to drop out. Lizzie led the way with a strong finish followed by Tiffany and Lana. A solid race for all.
Next, the Division II boys took to the line and the gun went off. Hyde boys including Scott, Dennis, Alex, Bill, Mike, Ryan, Vega, and Dacheng all had a strong start with Scott taking an early place in the pack.
After a challenging hill section Alex was followed by Dennis and then the rest of the Hyde crew not far behind. Everyone was tired but displayed excellent effort through a tough race.
That especially goes for Scott who made it his goal to get a trophy, requiring him to be in the top ten. Indeed Scott made it, finishing 8th of over 100 boys. Scott ran an exciting and hard fought race keeping himself in the top 10 pack the whole time. It was great to see Scott on the medal stand representing Hyde!
