Boys JV Soccer at Marianapolis
Hyde: 1; Marianapolis: 0

On Saturday, September 14, the Hyde Wollfpack traveled to nearby Marianapolis for its opening game of the season. Overcoming nerves and inexperience, an under-manned Hyde team battled through a scoreless first half, keeping the Marianapolis attack at bay with stout defense from James Howard ’14, Jeremy Gu ’15, Hagop Ahrens ’14, and McCallum Landt ’15. Hyde broke the deadlock early in the second half when King Jin ’17 found the back of the net with a beautiful shot off his right foot. Jerry Wang ’16 and Liam Gorey ’15 used impressive speed and stamina in advancing the ball to create scoring opportunities throughout the second half, but were unable to add to the slim lead. Marianapolis tested the defense in the game’s final minutes and nearly capitalized on a mental mistake by the Hyde team, but keeper Rob Ficarra ’14 and the Wolfpack preserved the shutout through the final whistle. It was a gutsy victory and the team is thrilled with such a terrific start to the season!
