Hyde : 0
The Wolfpack hosted their season opening game against MacDuffie on Saturday. With the heat passing over a couple days prior, the cooler temperature was a pleasant surprise at the start of the game. This was the first opportunity for the girls of Hyde School to play together as an entire team.
Possession started in favor of MacDuffie, which quickly reflected in the score as MacDuffie took a 1-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game. By the end of the first half, MacDuffie racked-up several scoring opportunities but were only able to capitalize on two of them. Angie Guidera-DeGroot ’14 and Carlye Marota ’14 were the defenders to thank for only trailing 2-0 at half. Their new-found positions seem to be serving the team well.
With only one sub going into the second half, MacDuffie had a long 40 minutes ahead of them. Janicha Diaz ’14 had several looks at the goal, as MacDuffie appeared more and more tired. Sadly, Diaz ’14 was only able to get as close as hitting the post. Her numerous break-aways through the MacDuffie defense will make her a key player in Hyde’s offense this year.
MacDuffie continued to penetrate the Hyde defense and scoring three more goals, which left the final score 5-0. The Hyde girls look to get their first win on Wednesday as they travel to Lincoln.
