Hyde Leadership Charter School Graduates Its First Class

Hyde-Bronx Class of 2013
The Hyde-Bronx Class of 2013

On Saturday, June 29thHyde Leadership Charter School (Hyde-Bronx) graduated its first high school senior class. The commencement ceremony took place on Saturday, June 29th at 1 PM at Columbia University, Roone Arledge Auditorium, in Alfred Lerner Hall.

The graduating class was composed of 66 seniors. The class had a 95% college acceptance rate to universities and colleges including SUNY schools, Fordham, Drexel and Brandeis.  As part of Hyde-Bronx’s Family-Based Character Building Education model, students had undergone a rigorous academic structure with an intense focus on character development and parent involvement.  At the school, all students perform 100 hours of community service and parents attend weekend retreats and character growth events throughout the school year.

Hyde-Bronx’s high school building opened in 2011 and is the first high school to be built in Hunts Point in more than three decades and the only college preparatory high school in the Hunts Point area of the South Bronx, the poorest congressional district in the US.

Hyde-Bronx opened in September 2006 and is a New York City public school chartered by the New York State Education Department. The school differs fundamentally from other schools because of the intense focus on character development and parent involvement. Using the unique Hyde process for Family-Based Character Education, the school unites families, teachers and students in helping children develop their deeper character and recognize their individual potential. The goal is for students to become responsible, ethical, contributing and fulfilled human beings.  Unlike traditional public schools, Hyde-Bronx does not receive full government funding from the Department of Education.  To maintain its successful supplementary programs, the school must raise $500,000 in donations in the next fiscal year, starting July 1st.  To support Hyde-Bronx’smission, visit www.hydebronxny.org or send queries and donations to:
