MAISAD Championship Track Meet – 5/13/13
The boy’s and girl’s track team headed to Hebron Academy to compete in the MAISAD Championship meet against Hebron Academy, North Yarmouth Academy, and Seacoast Christian Academy. The meet was originally scheduled for this Saturday but was postponed for fairer weather. Our athletes performed very well both individually and as members of their team. The boys placed second out of the four teams and the girls placed third.
Meet scores are below and individual performances attached (separate tabs for men and women).
Hyde – Bath 60.5
The girls’ team continued its strong showing in both track and field events. Senior Madeline Preece ‘13 won the 300m hurdles and came in second in the 100m hurdles. Katie Comeaux ‘13 placed first in the shot put and second in the discus and javelin. Our girls’ team has shown particular depth in the field events this year with junior Eve Amato ’14 placing second in the shot put and freshman Diamond Brown ’16 throwing for fourth in the discus. Freshmen Heaven Redd ’16 had a phenomenal day on the track, placing third in both the 400m and 200m, setting a personal record in the 400 with a time of 1:13.01. She also placed third in the triple jump for her debut performance! Junior Hope Stinson ’14 had similar success for her first time competing in the high jump, placing second with a height of 4 feet, 4 inches. Freshman Margot King ’16 placed sixth in the 100m hurdles and sophomore Avery Booth ’15 placed fifth in the 1500m and sixth in the 3000m.
Overall the girls’ team logged in three personal records, a new record in the 4×400 meter relay and four athletes placed their first time competing in completely new events!
Hyde- Bath 88
Our boys’ team fought with true grit to come in a close second behind Hebron Academy. Our distance crew exhibited the depth and prowess they have come to be known for this season with seniors Austin Wang ’13, Sam Williams ’13, and Isaac Preston ’13 all placing in the 3000m. Austin and Sam also competed and placed in the 1500m with Austin coming in second and Sam sixth. They were joined by junior Warsame Mohamed ’14 who came in third. The boys’ hurdlers did very well at Hebron, sophomore Luis Allen ’15 competed in the 110m hurdles for the first time this year and placed fifth, senior Billy Martinez ’13 set a personal record and placed third, and sophomore Dean Tian ’15 placed fourth. In the 300m hurdles junior Moustapha Niang ’14 placed sixth, Billy third, and senior Sam Mann ’13 placed fourth. Some incredible pole vaulting was done by freshman Chris Baldwin ’16. It was his first and only attempt at vaulting during competition. The week leading up to Monday was nerve-racking for Chris who at times succumbed to doubt and frustration. He put all that behind him on Monday to vault an impressive 7 feet, 6 inches, coming in third place at our MAISAD championship! The final event of the day was the 4 x 400 meter relay. Senior Wondo Shaw ’13 started the relay, followed by Luis Allen ’15, Warsame Mohammed ’14, and anchored by senior Cody Mitchell ’13. Cody had just finished the 800m and 400m, placing second and setting personal records in each. The relay was incredibly close with Hyde and Hebron going back and forth, fighting for first. It was not until the final leg that Cody cemented our lead, running an incredible race in which he put everything he had down on that track, securing a first place finish for the Hyde 4 x 400 boys relay team with a combined time of 3:49.
The boys’ team set 12 personal records at MAISADs this year.
This Saturday Hyde-Bath hosts New Englands at McMann Field.
