Hyde-Woodstock Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs. Portsmouth Abbey Junior Varsity

Portsmouth Abbey – 7

The sun was finally shining on the team’s trip to beautiful Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  The team was small giving a lot of inexperienced players experience on the field.  In the first half seniors Katherine Hagood and Alina Donnelly led the offense with 2 goals and 4 goals respectively.  They have become a duo to contend with.  In the second half Marcy Altobello ’13 scored her first goal of the season.  Alina Donnellyhas begun to distribute the ball more and had 4 assists and 5 goals for the game.  Katherine Hagood ‘13 ended the game with 3 goals.  The team is on a three game winning streak.

Hyde-Woodstock Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs. Williams

Williams – 17

In a league match-up Hyde faced off against a scrappy and quick Williams team.  The team was set back on its heels quickly and found themselves down 9 to 4 at halftime.  The scoring barrage continued and Hyde’s defense struggled to keep up.  Williams is an excellent team and Hyde appeared sluggish and unconfident.  The team’s record is 3 and 3.  They face Rocky Hill on Friday in another league match-up. Alina Donnelly ’13 had 5 goals and 2 assists.  Katherine Hagood ’13 had 2 goals.

Hyde-Woodstock Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs. Rocky Hill

Rocky Hill – 13

Hyde played its best game of the season in a league game against Rocky Hill.  From the get go the game appeared to be going down to the wire with both teams scoring and answering the score.  Alina Donnelly ’13 rose to the occasion and led all scorers with an impressive 11 goal game, 5 of which came in the first half.  Marcy Altobello ’13 had her second goal of the season.  The score at half time was Hyde 7 and Rocky Hill 10.  In the second half Hyde tightened its defense behind the efforts of Tina Zhang ’13, Yoomi Ji ’13, and Maureen Bellwoar ’13.  Jenna Dubinsky ’14 also sharpened her focus and made some key saves down the line in the waning seconds of the game.  Alina Donnelly ’13 scored 6 of her 11 goals and the final two of the game.  Angie Guidera de-Groot ’14 scored her first goal of the season and Katherine Hagood ’13 chipped in a goal.  The team’s confidence is growing which bodes well going into the SENE tournament in mid-May.

Hyde-Woodstock Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs. Marianapolis

Hyde traveled the short distance to play Marianapolis a league game.  Hannah Peters ’13 started the game off by seemingly being everywhere on the field collecting ground balls which is the key to possession, she would end the game with 11 ground ball possessions.  Alina Donnelly ’13 and Katherine Hagood ’13connected for all fifteen goals and 2 assists a piece.  Many newcomers such as; Sydney LaCavalla ’14, Jackie Markferding ’14, Jules Arthin ’14, and Lizzie Xu ’14 saw a great deal of playing time which will give them much needed experience going into tournament time.  The score at halftime saw Hyde at an advantage of 6 to 4.  The defense did a solid job containing their scorers, especially in the second half behind the efforts of Tina Zhang ’13, Maureen Bellwoar ’13, Yoomi Ji ’13 and Jing Yaing ’13.  Alina Donnelly ’13 ended the game with 10 goals and 2 assists.  Katherine Hagood ’13 had 5 goals and 2 assists.  Although Marcy Altobello ’13 shot the ball several times she ended the game with an assist.  Hyde travels to undefeated Wheeler in their last league game before the tournament begins next week.
