The fastest game on two feet! (is even faster with running time)
The Hyde Future Phoenix travelled to the Huskies of Kent’s Hill School home turf for their second MAISAD match. In a chaotic start to the game, Kent’s Hill jumped out to a 1 – 0 lead after the Phoenix earned their first of three penalties on the day. Early in the second quarter, the Huskies bested “Brick Wall” David Wu ’15 (20 saves and five clears on the day) on a second man down situation and jumped out to a 2 – 0 lead.
The Phoenix settled down and closed the gap to 2 -1 as Max Kaplan ’15 (5 ground balls and three shots on net for the day) dented the twine on a nice ISO move from midfield. The Ben Fusco ’14, Justin Shulman ’14, George Wang ’14 middy line also showed excellent hustle both on defense and offense. Kellin Sweeney ’14 (5 ground balls, 3 clears and 2 steals on the day), Charles Chen ’14 (2 Ground Balls, 1 clear and 3 defensive plays-steals) and Sagel Prosser (2 Ground Balls, 1 clear) anchored the defense in this very chaotic and fast moving game.
As the fourth quarter began, Hyde took the momentum and began to generate a consistent offensive threat spending the majority of the 10 minutes in the offensive side of the field. Huskie goal keep Jason Stevens turned away several threats, until Lawson Lin ’15 defied the laws of physics and “rolled” a reverse quick stick into the net with under 2 minutes (running time) to go to close the gap to 3 – 2. A face off win and a wide shot out of bounds…and time ran out…for another tough loss for the Phoenix.
Sophomore Aaron Leffert ’15 played excellent lacrosse on both sides of the field with 7 ground balls, 2 face off wins, 2 steals and 3 clears (and one shot…not quite on net…) to his credit. His hustle and leadership on and off the field earned him the “Dirty Ball” award for the game.
