The Hyde Track and Field team hosted their final home meet of the season on Wednesday, May 1, competing against teams from Moses Brown School, Bancroft School, and Wheeler School. With the weather in their favor, the Wolf pack continued to demonstrate solid effort and grit through the course of the meet.
The boys team placed second in the meet, falling to Moses Brown by 15 points. The streak of record breaking continued as the boys 4 x 100 team broke the school record, finishing in a time of 44.76 seconds.Jay Watkins ´13 led the scoring, placing first in the long jump, triple jump, and 200 m as well as participating in the 4 x 100 team. Jesse McKiernan ’15 fought hard in the 800, earning a personal record and third place overall. Other strong performances included Feda Djurisic ´14, who placed second in the 300 intermediate hurdles and first in the high jump, Kenny Zhang ’14, who placed third in the 100 m and fourth in the 200 m, running strong races in both, and Brendan Murray ’13, who placed third in the high jump and second in the pole vault.
The girls team was missing a few key athletes, ultimately leading to their fourth place finish. Participating in the triple jump for the first time, Jessie Schwartz ’14 placed fifth and showed great effort. Grace Briggs ’14 continued to lead the girls with her leadership and placed fifth in the 200 m. Rounding out the score for the girls were Janicha Diaz-Carrion ’14, who placed second in the 300 intermediate hurdles, and the third place finishes for both relay teams.
Overall, it was a great final meet for the Hyde Track and Field team, and both the boys and the girls are working hard to prepare for the SENE meet and to finish qualifying for New Englands. Their last competition before these final championship meets is this Saturday against Wilbraham and Munson School and Suffield Academy.
