Hyde — 9
Oceanside — 4
The Hyde Girls Lacrosse Team hosted Oceanside High School from Rockland, Maine this sunny Wednesday afternoon. The girls had great energy on the field from the starting whistle. Carolyn Moore started the scoring with a drive to cage in the first 25 seconds of the game and she didn’t stop there. Moore scored again 2 minutes later after another drive to the cage. Erika Corley scored her first goal of the season and her first of two for the day off a drive of her own and Jill Tolman also found the back of the net before Ocean side got up on the board at the eleven minute mark. Hyde responded with increased vigor and Moore netted her third of four for the day to round off the scoring for the half. Hyde entered the second half with a 4-1 lead but had the mindset that it was still 0-0, and it was Julia Jackson this time that drove to the net and sunk one in during the first minute of the half; Corley scored her second a few minutes later. Oceanside netted the next goal, but again it was Moore who rallied to answer back. Oceanside scored the next two goals, but Hyde’s defense refocused and stopped Oceanside scoring for the rest of the game. The game ended with pass across the net from Corley to an open Shannon Ward who caught the ball and sliced it past Oceanside’s goalie. Hyde’s Sonya Kobayashi, Ward, and Moore picked up fifteen ground balls between the three of them helping Hyde gain possession of the ball throughout the field. Hyde’s goalie Caroline Hammond made 10 saves in the win. Next, the Phoenix travel to Woodstock to face the Wolfpack on Saturday.
