Bath: Hyde JV Lacrosse drops a tough one to Kents Hill School

Team:  Boy’s Future Varsity Lacrosse

Date:   April 13, 2013

Score:  Hyde:  3   Kent’s Hill School: 4

The Hyde Future Phoenix hosted the Huskies of Kent’s Hill School in a MAISAD contest.

The future varsity jumped out to a 2 – 1 lead after 10 minutes of play with goals from Max Kaplan ’15 and Gunner Whiting ’16.

The Phoenix defense of Charles Chen ’14 and Darvin Anderson ‘14 played an excellent game stopping much larger attack-men and scooping up ground balls for the clear to the offensive zone.  Chris Moreau ’14 showed poise and grit as he had 7 ground balls 3 strips and 4 clears to his credit.

David Wu ’15 once again put in an excellent effort in goal making 22 saves on 26 shots on net.

For their efforts, both Wu and Moreau were awarded the “Dirty Ball” for heart and hustle.

The name of the game was ground balls and for the first time the FV out “GB’d” their opponent

which in turn led to more offensive opportunities and the most shots on net in a game (26) to date.

The score remained nip and tuck and was knotted at 2 each at the end of the third period.

Phoenix middy Justin Shulman ’14 finally bested the Husky keeper with a nice goal midway in the fourth period to put the FV Phoenix on top 3 – 2.

With 4 minutes to go, the husky attack dented the twine to tie it at 3 each.

With 59 seconds remaining the Husky middy slipped a nice feed to the attack and Kent’s Hill went up 4 -3 with less than a minute to go……..

And that is how the horn sounded with Kent’s Hill stealing the victory at the last minute.  It was a great game to watch with both teams showing hard play and good sportsmanship.  Two practices for Berwick and Woodstock next week.
