Hyde Women’s Lacrosse team hosted a playday Saturday afternoon with teams from Freeport and Morse High Schools. Each of the three teams played each other in mini 30 minute games. Although the weather was cold and windy, the teams played hard. A special thank you to the Hyde parents who had a cookout for the Hyde girls after their last game!
Hyde — 2
Freeport — 8
For the first game of the day, Freeport came out strong and scored a quick goal within the first minute of play. They continued their dominance scoring a total of six goals in the first fifteen minute half. Hyde stepped on the field in the second half not willing to give up that easily by tightening up their defense and having patience on the attacking end. Freeport snuck in another goal before and after Carolyn Moore netted Hyde’s first making the score 1 – 8 in the last minutes of the game. The game ended on a positive note for Hyde when Julia Jackson scored in the final seconds of the game.
Hyde — 5
Morse — 2
Hyde grabbed their first win of the season against Morse in the last game of the playday Saturday. Carolyn Moore started Hyde’s scoring putting up two unanswered goals in the first ten minutes of play. Julia Jackson rolled the crease for her second goal of the day and Morse found the net twice before the first half ended. It was Moore who stepped up again in the second half netting her fourth of the day and earning herself a hat-trick for the game. Goalie Caroline Hammond had one of her best game yet keeping Morse scoreless in the second half. Freshman Jill Tolman rounded off the scoring for Hyde, getting it past the goalie off a pass from Julia Jackson in the final two minutes of the game. Hyde walked off the field with a score of 5-2 and their first win ready to celebrate at the cookout!
