Hot Start Propels Wolfpack 3rds Past St. Andrews

On Thursday, February 21st, Hyde’s 3rds basketball team took on the Saints of St. Andrews coming away with a 45-32 victory. The Wolfpack have now won three straight behind solid defense and finishing around the rim. The matchup began as both teams traded punches offensively until Hyde’s defense began to suffocate the Saints’ possessions to seize the lead. This led to a 10-0 Wolfpack run, breaking the game open to an eighteen point lead at halftime. Off the break, St. Andrews scored on some weaker defensive possessions and cut into the boys’ lead, but quality play from the entire team allowed the lead to never dip below nine points in the second half.

Once again, winning as a team proved to be the mantra of the day. Two players scored in double digits as Josh Bouchard ’14 and Jeremy Gu ’15 both had eleven points each. Josh finished many of his open looks inside the paint and Jeremy shot the ball well from behind the arc.Drew Handley ’14 put in another seven points and exhibited another dominating performance in the paint. Much of the scoring can be attributed to the quality passing of point guard Kevin Ge ’15. Lastly, Aaron Cao ’16 was called up from Hyde’s developmental league to play in this game, scoring four points and grabbing eight rebounds. Hyde finishes the season against Valley View on Saturday, February 23rd.
