Hyde Wolfpack- 69
The Wolfpack Boys JV Basketball team took its talents west to play Masters on Saturday, February 2. The team came out strong jumping out to a quick lead. Kenny Zhang ’14 lead the charge defensively as the team effectively forced turnovers leading to fast break opportunities. After taking a commanding lead, Masters fought back into the game and put themselves within two at halftime.
To start the second half, the Wolfpack once again went on a run. Co-captains Sam Valentine ’13 and John Nelson ’14 pushed the team on offense and defense, both scoring sixteen points on the day. Kevin Ding ’13 and Johnny Schaer’14 and Jake Hedrick ‘14 also provided important minutes off the bench. Unfortunately, the team’s defensive charge was slowed in the second part of the half. Careless fouls and a severe drought on offense found the game tied at the end of regulation, with momentum favoring the home team. In the extra period the Wolfpack struggled to gel and work as one unit, and team morale hit a low point as Masters escaped with the win. The team hopes to use this game as a learning experience and pivoting point as they close out the season.
