Phoenix Up for the Challenge: Hyde Defeats A.R. Gould
Bath-The Hyde Phoenix beat the A.R. Gould Bears, from Long Creek 64-52 to finish their regular season.
The Phoenix played a brilliant half of basketball. They led after the first quarter 17 to 12. Ryan Cassidy dominated the paint early, scoring 7 of his 19 points to help Hyde establish an inside game. In the second quarter Hyde went on a 10-0 run to extend their lead. The energy unit of the Phoenix seemed to tip the scale. Talin Rowe and Wilson MacMillan contributed 15 of Hyde’s 25 second quarter points and increased the defensive intensity. Hyde’s swarming defense forced the Bears into some costly turnovers. Hyde led at half 42-23. A.R. Gould managed to close the game to 11 points late in the third. Hyde had their share of opportunities but missed several easy shots on offense. However the game was never in question as Hyde controlled the defensive tempo. The game got sloppy in the 4th quarter as both teams struggled with hanging onto the ball. Wilson MacMillan finished the game with 14 points including 2 3point shots. Talin Rowe had 10 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. Senior Ben Burlock helped the Phoenix with some solid inside play ( 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks). The win moved Hyde to 13-3 record in schoolboy basketball on the season. Zacharia Mohamed led A.R. Gould with 25 points. Chris Thomas added 9 points but was held scoreless in the 4th quarter.
