Lady Phoenix Seniors Shine in Season Finale
1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final
Hyde Phoenix 10 10 10 9 39
Sacopee Hawks 3 9 3 14 29
It was great night in the Hyde gymnasium as the Phoenix fans were in full force to celebrate the home season finale for the 2012-13 Lady Phoenix basketball team. Especially in the spotlight were seniors, Kara Fischer, Katie Comeaux, and Claire Yin. The trio led the team to an inspiring 39-29 victory over the visiting Hawks of Sacopee to finish out the regular season with an impressive record of 16-1. As she has all season, Fischer led the team with confidence and skill from the point guard position, both offensively and defensively. Fischer’s ability to overcome the defensive pressure of the other team plays such a huge role in our team’s success. She also does a commanding job of covering the front of our 3-2 zone defense. After missing most of last year to a knee injury, Fischer has had an outstanding senior season, and her role as the key leader on this team is undeniable. Comeaux came off the bench tonight to play one of the most dominating games of her Hyde career. She played strong offensively with 8 points and had a fantastic game on defense with 12 steals. Of all the things that Comeaux has done for the team this year, perhaps the most important thing has been the way that she has set the tone for the team’s hustle and intensity. She is a hard worker who leads with passion. As she has all season, tonight Yin did a solid job of as a backup post player. Late in the game, she made an important steal to dampen the hopes of the opponents. Yin’s unwavering support of her teammates and her exemplary work ethic have inspired her teammates all season. It has been a fantastic regular season for the Lady Phoenix, and our senior leadership has been largely responsible for it. However, it is clear that these seniors are not finished yet. They know they have an opportunity to do something special in the next few weeks.
