On February 1st and 2nd, the Hyde Phoenix traveled to Cape Elizabeth to compete its last regular season meet in 2013 Southwestern Swimming & Diving Championships with 16 other high schools from Maine. Windham with 144 points held off Yarmouth by four points for the boys’ title. With 200 points, the defending champion girls from Waynflete clung to a two-point victory over Massabesic. Although the Phoenix did not put any points on the board, several swimmers ended the season with personal records.

Friday evening, Jamie Lynch ’15 set personal best times for both 200 Free (2:41.30) and 100 Back (1:25.07). Jeans Jiaraksa ’15 too had a PR in 50 Free (27.26). Saturday evening, Diana Huang ’14 achieved her best time in 50 Free (50.01) and 100 Free (2:01.93). Katarina Ellison ’14 too had a PR in 100 Back (1:25.62).

Concluding the season, three Phoenix swimmers has qualified for the State Meet at Orono on February 18th and 19th. Conner Champagne ’13 qualified for 100 Fly (1:14.77) as well as Jiaraksa (1:14.92). As a first-year, Margot King ’16 qualified for 100 Back (1:16.83) and 200 Individual Medley (2:46.30).
