Bath: Phoenix JV Basketball Update

The Jv Squad has struggled over the past three games.  We went into Waynflete looking to upset the higher class, but we came just short.  After scoring a measly 11 points to their 25 in the first half we found a way to make it a game.  Noah Horning and Cole Faulkner led an aggressive defensive stand in the 3rd quarter while Aaron Leffert  struck on offense.  We brought the game within two but ended up losing 37-33.

After a cancelation against Kents Hill, we found ourselves matched up against Thorton for the third time this season.  They had won the first game at their place and we had won the second game on our court.  This game would decide the series.  The first half we were neck and neck, the lead was switching on every possession.  Leading or scoring attack was Cole Faulkner and Wes Miller with 11 points each both of them hitting crucial three pointers in the game.  In the second half the Phoenix fire seemed to dim as we let Thorton gain a lead that made it very difficult to come back from.  Thorton ended up winning 53-44.

Our most recent game was played at Old Orchard Beach, and from the first whistle to the last whistle nothing went our way.  From miscommunications, turnovers and a few questionable calls we found ourselves trailing by 20.  For the next hour it seemed to continue that way.  OOBHS beat us 63-14.  When there was nothing left to lose at the end of the game, the five guys on the court ran a great offense; they passed the ball, found the open man and were communicating with one another.  We just couldn’t get our shots to fall.  Ibe Mokeme came off the bench with a great attitude and played a wonderful game, taking care of the ball and getting several rebounds.
