Lady Phoenix Travel to Acadia for Fun, Fellowship, and Basketball

The Hyde Lady Phoenix traveled to Acadia Christian School for an overnight stay and a double-header of basketball on Friday and Saturday.  What an amazing trip it was!  The folks at Acadia welcomed the team with warmth and hospitality as they offered food, lodging, and friendship.  The girls from Hyde did an exemplary job of being gracious guests and did their best to “leave it better than they found it,” not just in terms of the physical space, but also the spiritual one.  The Seahawk coach, John Lenninhan and his staff did an amazing job of setting the tone for a wonderful basketball experience that both teams enjoyed immensely.  The Hyde Phoenix defeated Acadia on Friday night by a score of 26-8, and again on Saturday by a score of 29-8 to improve their season record to 15-1.  Fr. Lutes Bartlett stole the spotlight on Saturday when she poured in 12 points and collected numerous rebounds.  So. Allie Helfrich did a fantastic job both games of running the show as the point guard.  Helfrich scored 8 points on Friday and another 4 on Saturday.  Jr. Cailin Darling hit 2 three pointers in scoring 7 points on Friday and 3 more on Saturday.  Of all the wonderful things that took place over the two days, perhaps the most exciting moment came when So. Gigi Chen, making her varsity debut, scored her first ever basket in the 3rd quarter of the Friday night game.  Even the players and fans of the other team recognized how special the moment was and cheered with enthusiasm.  Chen enjoyed the moment so much that she decided to come back on Saturday and score another 4 points.  Sr. Claire Yin played almost the entire game both days and showed excellent improvement.  She played solid defense, collected several rebounds, and scored a basket in each game.  At the end of Friday night’s game, Beth Wilbur a player from Acadia, took the time to tell the Hyde players that they were nicest and most enjoyable opponents that she had faced all year.   Once again, it was truly a successful flight of the Phoenix.
