Phoenix Win Two in Acadia
Trenton- Hyde got out to a 24-10 first quarter lead and never looked back, defeating the host Acadia Christian in Trenton by a score of 67-35.
Mustapha Niang (12 points) and Warsame Mohamed (18 points) led the Phoenix to a 34-18 half-time lead. The Phoenix were able to distribute the ball as they placed 4 members in double figures.
Point Guard Kiefer Cundy had 10 points and 4 assists.
Junior Talin Rowe posted a double/double with 11 rebounds and 10 assists, scoring 6 points. Returning sharpshooter, Wilson MacMillan scored 14 points and provided defensive energy off the bench.
Wondo Shaw was able to help Hyde with some solid low post play scoring 6 points and adding 6 rebounds.
Freshman Spencer Young was hot from the outside, converting on two 3 pointers for the SeaHawks. He led all scorers with 26 points. Jacob Chasse also scored 10 points for the host school.
Hyde played slow- down basketball in the 4th quarter.
Phoenix Beat SeaGulls Again
In the second game of a back to back schedule, the Hyde Phoenix defeated the Acadia Christian Seagulls by a score of 65-35 on Saturday in Trenton, Maine.
The Phoenix shared the ball and placed 5 players in double figures to seal the win. Today it was the back-court play of the Phoenix that shined. Guards Kiefer Cundy (11 points,7 assists), Talin Rowe (10 points,4 steals) and Wilson MacMillan (11 points, 6 assists) led the charge. The Phoenix were able to extend pressure to the full court forcing two consecutive 10 second violations. Hyde led at half-time by a score of 36-19. Seahawk Spencer Young displayed a full range of offensive moves in scoring 26 points against Hyde. The Phoenix also got valuable contributions from Luis Allen who scored 6 points from the bench. Hyde player Warsame Mohamed had 8 assists and 6 steals and scored 10 points in limited action. Senior Ryan Cassidy added 10 points.
