Seagulls Pick off Phoenix
Old Orchard- Hyde got out to an early lead over the Seagulls of Old Orchard Beach and led after one quarter 11-8.
Hyde played some suffocating defense and seemed to contain the post play of Old Orchard. However, the tide quickly turned in the 2nd when Hyde Senior
Ben Burlock got into foul trouble. Old Orchard went on a 14-0 run, primarily on 2nd chance opportunities as Hyde was unable to match size with the
Seagulls. Playing inspired basketball on Senior night, Old Orchard led at half by a score of 32-15. Hyde rallied in the 3rd quarter and seemed to rattle the back-court of Old Orchard. The Phoenix battled back to close the gap within 7 points and had several opportunities to cut the lead to 5. They outscored Old Orchard in the 3rd quarter 21-15 behind the hot shooting of Evander Lenardson who put up 7 3rd quarter points including a pull-up 3 pointer. However, Old Orchard pulled away midway in the 4th quarter, before both coaches cleared their benches in the final minutes.
Josh Giddard led Old Orchard with 21 points and 7 assists. Quincy Grace, who was contained well by the Phoenix in the first half, finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Hyde was led by Evander Lenardson who scored 12 points. Warsame Mohamed contributed 11. And Wilson MacMillan returning to the line-up scored 11 points off the bench.
