Flu season is upon us and it reared its ugly head the week leading up to Friday’s contest against Marianapolis Preparatory School, decimating the 3rds roster. The illness left only five players available for the first half of the contest. With a much deeper roster, the Golden Knights took advantage early and never looked back, blowing out Hyde 73-33. Throughout the first half, the Thirds’ zone defense was exploited with good ball movement and precision three-point shooting from MPS. However, true to 3rds form, they refused to give up without a fight and played stout defense throughout the second half, not allowing a single three-point shot to fall and showing encouraging progress on offense. However, the offensive juggernaut was just too great to overcome and Marianapolis came away with the victory.
The limited lineup allowed for multiple players to see extended playing time. Chris Xu ’16 and Clement Hong ’16 are continuing to learn the nuances of zone defense and team offense, but have shown encouraging progress. Jeremy Gu ’15 handled the ball well in the absence of the Wolfpack’s starting point guard and leading the scorers were Josh Bouchard ’15 and Drew Handley ’15 with thirteen and nine points respectively.
