This past Saturday, the Hyde-Bath JV Wrestling team traveled down to Milton Academy, just outside of Boston. There they met up against Milton Academy and Hyde-Woodstock. There were rounds between all the schools, including a dual meet between the two Hyde Schools. Some of the stand-out performances were captain Ben Vandewater, John McManus, and Austin Makris. Vandewater wrestled up a weight class to take on a much larger opponent. He battled his best and ended up with a pin and another victory under his belt. McManus also notched his first career victory. He competed for a complete 3 periods, eventually winning by a score of 14-8 and executing multiple take-downs throughout the match. Austin Makris also took a “W” on the day, pinning his opponent shortly after the start of his contest.
Rookie wrestler Mike Harris also had an impressive day. Although he has only been wrestling for a few weeks, he has quickly learned and improved his skill. Harris lost his first match of the day, but came back strong in his second match, pinning his opposition with his own unique style. Caroline Hammond had a tough battle. She fought hard and took her opponent into the third period. She scored take-down and escape points, but would eventually lose by pin in a closely scored match. There were also well fought battles by Karl Shen and James Lee. Both of them had matches in which they wrestled up weight-classes, but continued to compete at their hardest.
Now having two JV meets under their belts, they JVW team looks to prepare for a busy, tiring, and exciting week. Traveling to Exeter on Wednesday and Andover on Saturday, both the experienced and new wrestlers will be ready to work hard and compete at their best abilities and put forth their strongest effort.
