The Boys JV Basketball team hosted Putnam Science Academy Mustangs on Saturday, and came away with a solid 54-40 win. This was just the second game in which the Wolf Pack implemented a 1-3-1 defense. Several defensive blunders allowed for easy lay-ins and open jump shots for the Mustangs, and the Wolf Pack found themselves down 23-17 at the half. In the second half, Hyde settled down, creating turnover after turnover, which fueling a 37-point offensive outburst.
Offensive contributions came from the entire team, with twelve of sixteen players getting on the score sheet. Co-captains John Nelson ’14 and Sam Valentine ’13 contributed 14 and 8 points respectively, while senior Van Zhou’s 5 points were part of his best performance to date. Junior Nate Brostoff played solid defense, scrambling to close out perimeter shots, and put in 6 points of his own. Mike Paradis ’15 and Joey Fan ’13 set up their teammates for easy buckets throughout the game, while also providing defensive menace from the point guard position.
The Wolf Pack look to continue their run of solid form Wednesday against Worcester Academy.
