On Wednesday January 16th, the Hyde Wolf Pack traveled a short way down the road to play the Pomfret School Griffins. The two teams had met for an evenly matched preseason scrimmage back in November, but this time around the Wolf Pack were unprepared for the high pressure defensive play of the Griffins, and fell 52-24. In the first half, Hyde struggled to put points on the board, with Jason Zhao ’14, Harrison Smith ’14, and Tim Patterson ’16 combining for the team’s only six points. In the second half, the Wolf Pack came out determined to change the pattern of play, and with the help of senior co-captain Sam Valentine, they managed to cut halftime’s twenty-point deficit to twelve. This was unfortunately as close as Hyde would get, as the Griffins continued to force turnovers and score easy baskets in transition. The Wolf Pack look to improve on its defensive presence in the coming weeks, with key match ups against PCD and PSA.
