St. Thomas Moore -51
Hyde Wolfpack- 45
On Friday January 11, St. Thomas Moore traveled to Woodstock to take on the boys JV basketball team on their home floor. St. Thomas Moore came out in a press, looking to frazzle our ball handlers, and force turnovers. Hyde stayed calm and collected, effectively passing the ball into gaps in the defense; Sam Valentine ’13, Joey Fan ’13, and Jason Zhao helped us bring the ball up without committing a single turnover due to the press. Despite the careful ball handling, Hyde struggled to contain St. Thomas Moore on defense in the first half. Jesse Mckiernan ’15 and John Nelson ’14 each scored six points in the first half, making important baskets to keep the team in the game and trailing by seven at halftime.
In the second half the Wolfpack came out rejuvenated. Harrison Smith ’15 and Tim Patterson ’16 brought a new sense of urgency to the team’s defensive play, forcing turnovers in our own 1-3-1 press. Omri West ’16 and Nathan Brostoff ’14 cleaned the glass rebounding, hustling to loose balls clanging off the rim. Despite an abundance of second opportunities, the team was unable to capitalize with baskets. The squad played hard in the second half in a losing effort, to a talented St. Thomas Moore team. We look forward to our next game against PCD on Friday, January 18.
