The Hyde Swim Team took to the water for its second away meet, this time in Biddeford, Maine where we swam against Waynflete and hosting team Kennebunk High School. It was a tough but exciting meet, our swimmers battled for their best times despite illness and bad traveling weather. The final score for the Hyde Men’s Team was 11 against Kennebunk’s 85 and 38 against Waynflete’s 32, marking this as our first win of the season! Our Women’s team scored 14 to Waynflete’s 66 and 10 against Kennebunk’s 84. As a first year coach I could not be happier with how our athletes have improved, grabbing our first ‘W’ against another team has been a huge morale boost and we look forward to a possible repeat performance on Waynflete’s home turf this coming Friday the 18th.
Stand out performances include a new personal record by set by Jamie Lynch ‘15 in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:31:83 and a phenomenal Women’s Relay Team that includes Margot King ‘16, Imani Hiller-Bateau ‘15, Eve Amato ‘14, and Katarina Ellison ‘14. This relay team competed in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. The Medley was completed in a time of 2:33:72 with Margot leading us off in the backstroke, Eve following right behind with the breaststroke, Katarina zipping through the pool with the butterfly and Imani anchoring us home with the freestyle.
Jamie also swam a great 200 Yard Freestyle in which he beat out a Waynflete swimmer by mere fractions of a second to finish with a time of 2:46:41. Matthew Lupovich ‘14 placed a very solid third in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:18:57, preceded by two great Women’s 100 Back times put up by Margot and Katarina with times of 1:18:33 and 1:27:34, respectively.
A special shout out should also go to Yidan (Diana) Huang who, having been in the States for less than a week, jumped right in and competed in her first swim meet yesterday in the 50 Freestyle.
This meet marked the half-way point for our swim season and it sure has been an exciting one. We kicked off the season with two home meets that were both well attended by both Hyde students and faculty. We could not be more thankful for the support we have received along the way and we are all so excited to keep up the momentum!
