Hyde’s Indoor Track program competed on Wednesday in a four-way meet against Phillips-Andover, Governors Academy, and Wilbraham-Monson. It was a little intimidating walking into the Andover indoor track facility to see 95+ track athletes from Andover, another 35 from both Governors and Wilbraham. We had twenty competing athletes total.
Amazingly, the seven-member Hyde women’s team tied for 3rd place overall in the women’s meet with a score of 14 points and our men tied for 2nd place overall with a score of 31 points.
On the women’s side, Julia Jackson `14 demolished the field in the 600yd dash, winning in a time of 1:42.50. Julia also placed fourth in the 300yd dash (44.59). Avery Booth `15 placed second in the 2 mile (15:23.28) and Xi Wang `14 placed 4th in the 1000yd run (3:31.45)… 10 seconds faster than her 4th place finish last year in this event.
On the men’s side, we also have some strong performances on our way to a 2nd place team placing. The highlight of the day was watching sophomore Alexi Philippoussis win the 1000yd run (2:50.49) and place 4th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 34’ 5”. Joel Harris `13 (a team member but student at the local high school in Bath) won the high jump (6’00”). Max Zerrudo-Turgeon `15 placed 3rd in the 50yd hurdles. Cody Mitchell `13 placed 2nd in the 1 mile (5:11.92)… a personal best for him. Other place winners were Jamal Frazer-Borden `13… 4th in the 50yd dash (6.29), Isaac Preston `13… 4th in the 2 mile (12:00.1), and Griffin Palola-Harriman `14… 4th in the 1000yd run (2:54.39). Our men’s 4 x 400 Relay placed 2nd overall (Jamal Frazer-Borden – Ethan Morrow – Joel Harris – Andrew Davis).
It was a good day for Hyde track and field. The meet results are attached.
