The Boys Thirds basketball team travelled down the road to Pomfret School on Wednesday, January 9th to kick off the second half of their winter campaign. Pomfret proved to live up to their expectation as a team with sound fundamentals that could easily expose lackadaisical defense. The Griffins captured the win in a 44-31 effort. Hyde kept Pomfret on a short leash the entire first half, cutting the deficit to six points at the beginning of the second half. However, undisciplined defending, careless turnovers, and poor shooting allowed the Griffins to make a 14-0 run to break the game open.
Nonetheless, several players exhibited tremendous effort throughout the contest. New addition Drew Handley ’14 made his presence known inside, scoring 6 points (50% FGP), while Justin Shulman ’14 overcame some early shooting struggles with 13 points. Clement Hong ’16 and Jeremy Gu ’15 exhibited great hustle up and down the floor, despite defending some of Pomfret’s top offensive talent.
