Phoenix Emerge in Double Overtime Win over Valley
Bath- The Hyde Phoenix (5-0) defeated Valley Bingham in double overtime 72-69.
Valley took an early lead and held on for a 16-13 score after one quarter of play.
Hyde was led by Ryan Cassidy who finished with 14 rebounds and 19 points.
Cassidy fouled out late in the game.
Jr. Warsame Mohamed was clutch as he scored 12 of his game high 20 points in the 4th quarter and overtime periods.
Valley struggled late with handling Hyde’s pressure defense which allowed the Phoenix to rally.
Cundy, Rowe and MacMillan all had key defensive contributions during the Phoenix run.
Hyde had several chances to put the game away in both the 4th quarter and the 1st overtime, however had two costly turnovers.
The score was tied at the end of regulation 53-53.
However, the story late in the game was the sharpshooting of Evander Lenardson who caught fire to lift the Phoenix.
Lenardson scored 9 of his 13 points in the overtime to lead Hyde to the win.
