Hyde-Woodstack Boys Varsity Basketball at Bob Southall Tournament: Recap

12/14/12 Bob Southall Basketball Tournament at Loomis Chaffee, CT

Hyde Woodstock   44
vs. the Gunnery School   35

The Wolfpack took seventh place in the Bob Southall Basketball Tournament at Loomis Chaffee, CT with a 44-35 win over Gunnery on Friday 14th, December. While other students went home for the holidays, the boys varsity basketball team utilized a shortened roster to rebuild team chemistry and overcome foul trouble which left it without its big forward and center, Ken Grant ’14 and Christian Ejiga ’13. Captain Tyquan Ekejiuba PG became more active on defense and worked with Daniel Palmer PG to create better ball movement on offense, leading to a 21-14 advantage at halftime. Fedja Djurisic ’15 and Julian Mardenli PG led the Wolfpack in scoring with thirteen and eleven points each. Connor McLaughlin ’13 and Ben Krassner ’13 played extended minutes for the first time this season; their defensive intensity helped secure the victory. The Wolfpack’s overall record now stands at five wins and three losses; the team opens the new year at Vermont Academy on the 9th of January.

12/13/12 Bob Southall Basketball Tournament at Loomis Chaffee, CT

Hyde Woodstock             31
vs. Berkshire School        50

The boys varsity basketball team dropped to four wins and three losses on the year after playing poorly in a 31-50 loss against Berkshire School at the Bob Southall basketball tournament at Loomis Chaffee, CT. The Wolfpack seemed to be suffering the aftereffects of allowing the previous day’s game slip away, missing easy shots to open the game and allowing undersized opponents to slip in for offensive rebounds. The Wolfpack never fought back after trailing 14-27 at halftime.  Fedja Djurisic ’15 scored twelve points on 42% shooting, and Christian Ejiga ’13 also had twelve points and secured eight rebounds in the loss.

12/12/12 Bob Southall Basketball Tournament at Loomis Chaffee, CT

Hyde Woodstock             39
vs. Salisbury                       56

The Wolfpack opened the Bob Southall basketball tournament at Loomis Chaffee against defending Class A champions Salisbury and, after a tightly contested first half, lost 39-56. Ken Grant Jr.  ’14 and Julian Mardenli PG led the team in scoring with eleven and twelve points each.  The team shot fifty percent from the three point perimeter and eighty-eight percent from the charity stripe. As the season progresses the Wolfpack will need to coordinate its outside shooting and inside presence to compete effectively against strong opponents like Salisbury.
