JV Boys Basketball
Hyde Woodstock vs. Marianapolis
The JV Basketball team hosted Marianapolis this past Monday December 10th. It was thought that Golden Knights would prove to be the toughest opponent yet, and they did not disappoint, handing the Wolfpack their first loss of the season. The score line of 44 – 31 did not accurately represent the competitive nature of the game. Hyde went on a 10 – 2 run to start the second half to pull ahead by 1 point, and then found themselves down by only 4 points with four minutes remaining. Undisciplined defending and careless turnovers undermined the Wolfpack’s efforts in the final minutes of play, and Marianapolis took full advantage of these mistakes.
Seven different players contributed to the scoring, with 10 points from Jason Zhao ’14 leading the way. Captains John Nelson ’14 and Sam Valentine ’13 put in 6 and 5 points respectively, but the player of the game, Harrison Smith ’14, did not need to score a single basket to make his presence felt on the court. His hustle and heads-up team play fueled Hyde’s second half comeback effort. One of Smith’s rebounds led to Jessie McKiernan ’15 hitting a clutch three-pointer to cut the deficit to 4 points in the second half, but this was unfortunately as close as the Wolfpack would get.
The Boys JV Basketball team looks to learn from its mistakes and return ready to work hard again in January of the new year.
