The Hyde Phoenix Varsity Wrestling team made the trip to Woodstock, CT yesterday to square off against our sister school in what has become The Hyde Winter Wrestling Classic. The Phoenix of Hyde – ME rose to victory by impressive score of 65 – 18.
After a week spent addressing “attitude”, the Boys form Bath showed up in Connecticut ready to wrestle, and earned the victory on the strength of 9 pins, a technical fall, and a forfeit. The team (and indeed the Hyde – ME wrestling program) was the standout yesterday. Every individual made concerted efforts to bring their best to the action yesterday and it was a great day for us. The “Men of the Match” for the 2012 Winter Classic were senior 106 Sam Williams who wrestled up a weight class and came from behind to earn the pin, senior captain Austin Wang who picked up his first win this season, and senior 220 Will Davis who stepped on to the mat at his former school and earned a huge win in front of the school he recently transferred from!
