Boys JV Basketball Takes on PSA, 33-22

Boys JV Basketball @ Putnam Science Academy

Hyde: 33
PSA: 22

On Thursday, December 6, the Wolfpack made the short trip down the road to Putnam Science Academy for a much-anticipated matchup of local rivals.  Hyde’s starting five of co-captains Sam Valentine ’13 and John Nelson ’14, Jason Zhao ’14, Joey Fan ’13, and Omri West ‘16  created most of the offense throughout the contest, accounting for 23 points in a 33-22 win.  Senior Kevin Ding (6 points) and junior Dontae Gregory (4 points) accounted for the remainder of Hyde’s scoring.  The first half saw Hyde’s energetic defense hold PSA to just 11 points.  Defensive stops let to easy baskets in transition for the Wolfpack, with Zhao cutting through to the hoop for several crafty layups.  Nelson and Nate Brostoff ’14 provided a solid presence down low, but found themselves in foul trouble early in the second half with three fouls a piece.  Drew Handley ’14 and Harrison Smith ’14 spelled them with solid defensive play and inspiring hustle.  With a promising start to the JV basketball season, the Wolfpack look to continue their winning ways against Chase Collegiate and Marianapolis in the coming days.
