The Hyde Lady Phoenix basketball team got its season off to a fine start with an impressive road victory 47-27 over Pine Tree Academy. Kara Fischer led all scorers with 20 points and Shannon Ward contributed 12 points courtesy of some deadly accurate shooting from the outside. The Lady Phoenix defense played well, especially the backcourt pressure that effectively frustrated and stymied the Breakers’ offense. Chloe Blaylock played great defense in the post as did Jailene Martinez, both pulling rebounds and blocking shots. Allie Helfrich and Katie Comeaux played solid perimeter defense and did a fine job of moving the ball on offense. The Lady Phoenix (1-0) have great potential to have a solid season as long as they continue to work hard to enhance the team chemistry and collective work ethic. Next up, the Hyde ladies will host Kents Hill Monday in their home opener.
