Bath: Boys Varsity Soccer MAISAD finals vs. Hebron Academy

Hyde School                       0

Hebron Academy             1

The Phoenix travelled to Hebron to play Hebron Academy on Saturday for the MAISAD finals.  The game was played on their natural grass pitch under sunny, cool conditions.  From the very first whistle it was clear that it was going to be an exciting match.  Both teams were determined to find a way to win and played with intensity.  There were many highlights from the game; captain Ethan Morrow ringing the crossbar on a free kick, Wilson MacMillan`14 working the ball into the six and blasting it at goal only to have the keeper save it.  Billy Martinez`13 making great saves as keeper.   Defenders Wondo Shaw`13, Nabil Eshraghian`13, Andrew Davis`15, Moustapha Niang`14 and PG Sam Mann thwarting the Lumberjack’s offensive flow, forcing them to play three up top in an effort to score on a big through ball.  Midfielders Kiefer Cundy`15 and Eduardo Gadsden`13 playing two-touch soccer and getting the ball out wide to Wes Miller`14 and Cole Faulkner`15 so they could work it down the flanks to cross it into the box.   It was a back and forth game with each team creating numerous scoring chances.  However, after 90 minutes of regulation play the score was knotted at 0-0.  Consequently, two five minute overtime periods were played and again no goals were scored.  This was followed by two five minute ‘sudden-death’ overtime periods.  Unfortunately, Hebron converted on a ball that was bouncing around inside the box with less than 3 minutes remaining in the last overtime.  It was a tough loss, to a very good team.  As coaches, we were proud of our team for their competitive spirit and tenacity.  They played hard for the entire match, developed synergy and represented their school well by playing with sportsmanship and class.

The team was excited to learn that the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council(NEPSAC) has  invited to us play in the  New England Tournament.  We are the number one seed in class D.  Our first match will be played against  Rocky Hill School from Rhode Island at Berwick Academy on Wednesday.
