Bath: GVS vs. Rangeley

October 22, 2012

Hyde – 3

Rangeley – 0

The Phoenix recently hosted Rangeley for a scrimmage on home turf.  Fog and light rain contributed to eerie conditions that later broke to a fair afternoon.  The Hyde team dominated the play from the opening whistle and played some of their best soccer of the season.  Switching fields, transitioning to attack, controlling at mid-field and working the ball through the back were all part of the winning combination of play.  The first goal of the game was scored by Shannon Ward ’14 on an assist from Kara Fischer ’13.  Despite constant pressure and shooting from the home team, the Phoenix scored only one more goal before half as Olivia Griffing ’14 netted a shot from close range.

The second half saw more of the same with many of Rangeley’s attempts shut down by hard efforts from Allie Helfrich ’15, Hope Stinson ’14 and senior sweeper Mady Preece ’13.   The Hyde team continued to work the ball and play solid soccer despite their difficulty finishing shots.  The third and final goal of the game came when stopper Carolyn Moore ’14 drove the box and finished a great outside shot.  The team looks forward to its next game in hopes of continuing their winning streak.
