Hyde GVS: 1
The Hyde Girls Varsity Soccer Team traveled to play Lincoln on Wednesday, October 24th. The girls knew it wouldn’t be any easy game from the beginning, due to injuries. This meant that girls such as Jessie Schwartz ‘14 and Kai Bixby ‘15, who normally see little playing time, were going to be asked to play the majority of the game. Not only did these two girls step up to the challenge, they exceeded all expectations. But they were not the only players that stepped up to the challenge. Everyone played more than they expected.
The game started with Lincoln controlling the ball. After about ten minutes, Hyde was able to win control of the ball and put the pressure on. At this point, Hyde knew that this game was not out of reach. On a quick counter-attack, Lincoln put the ball in Hyde’s net. From here, the half went downhill fast. By the end of the first forty minutes, Lincoln racked up the score to 4-0. The halftime talk from the coaches and players was clear, “You can’t give up after you get scored on.”
The second half started with an even match. The offense put together a few more scoring opportunities, as they did in the first half. Finally, with around ten minutes left in the game, Grace Briggs ‘14 had a great pass through the defense to Janicha Diaz ‘14, who finished on a perfect shot right by the Lincoln keeper. The Hyde girls were ecstatic. The rest of the game, the Hyde girls were able to control the ball very well. They did allow one goal in the second half, leaving the final score 5-1. Although Lincoln got the victory, Hyde did prove one thing. An entire team’s support will lead them to a greater outcome. For the remaining season, look for Hyde to score first and you will see them come out with a victory.
