Wolf Pack Boys Varsity Soccer Falls to Pomfret Griffins, 8-1

October 17, 2012

Pomfret – 8

Hyde – 1

Intimidated by a very talented opponent, the Hyde Wolfpack got smoked by local powerhouse Pomfret School 8-1 on a beautiful fall day in Pomfret.  Despite some nice possession in the first two minutes of the match, a handball inside the box set up an easy penalty kick opportunity for Pomfret to take a 1-0 advantage just three minutes into the game.  Some three minutes later, Pomfret struck again off a brilliantly struck volley just outside the eighteen yard box for a 2-0 lead.  After such a disappointing start, the Wolfpack had difficulty digging itself out of this hole.  The first half score was 4-0 Griffins.

Unfortunately, the second half saw much of the same.  The Wolfpack’s lone goal came off a beautiful combination play between the senior trio of Christian Ejiga, Will Davis, and Sean Kokdil.  Kokdil received a beautiful feed from Will Davis, and Sean chipped the Pomfret goalie and tucked the ball away in the top right corner of the goal.  While many Hyde players hung their heads in disappointment, defenders Felipe Azevedo ’14, Toby Obayashi ’16, and Graham Davidson ’13 worked diligently for the duration of the match.  Hats off to Pomfret who executed their game plan flawlessly.

The Wolfpack, hoping to rebound from a thorough thumping, looks to regain its form when it takes on undefeated Wheeler School on Saturday at home at 1:30pm for our Parents Weekend matchup.
