The Hyde Women’s JV Soccer team hosted Gould Academy for a Saturday afternoon match. The rain held off as the whistle blew and both teams began their fight. Some initial offensive pressure was seen from Hyde, but Gould soon found their groove. Each team had some scoring opportunities but neither team was able to capitalize. The first half ended scoreless. Hyde came out strong in the second half. Within the first five minutes junior Susanna McManus had an offensive break and sent a great shot towards the goal. Gould goalie had a hand on it, but Hyde’s Eve Amato was there and sent the ball to the back of the net. Hyde was up 1-0, with their first lead all season. Excitement was high and fifteen minutes later it was Amato who again slipped the ball past the goalie, for her third goal of the season and the team’s fourth. Hyde was leading by two. Composure was the name of the game for Hyde as the minutes passed, which had yet to be tested this season and Gould never gave up. Gould worked hard and set up two great scoring opportunities and unfortunately for Hyde, they capitalized on both. With five minutes left, the game was tied. Hyde had a few opportunities to gain back the lead without success, and Hyde’s goalie Chloe Blaylock who played an outstanding game came up with a big save off of a Gould break away in the last few minutes. Hyde defense was led by Imani Hiller-Bateau and Claire Yin. Wang Xi and Lutes Bartlett played an excellent game in the midfield.
