Bath: GVS vs. Gould Academy

October 20, 2012

Hyde – 2

Gould Academy – 1

The Phoenix advanced their winning streak to three games as they closed out a hard fought comeback against Gould Academy.  It was Hyde’s turn to host and the fans lined the turf despite the wet weather.  The first 15 minutes of the game was dominated by the Hyde team as they won loose balls and controlled the mid-field possession.  Kara Fisher ’13, Julia Jackson ’14 and Carolyn Moore ’14 were all major contributors to the early efforts at mid-field while Hope Stinson ’14 and Allie Helfrich ’14 shut down Gould’s strikers.  Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalize on this early momentum and the game remained scoreless.  At the 15 minute mark, Gould stepped up their game and began to take control.  They mirrored the intensity the Phoenix had shown but unlike the home team were able to take advantage of a mis-played ball in front of the Hyde net, scoring with less than 3 minutes left in the first half.  As the whistle blew it was 1-0 Gould.

The Phoenix reclaimed their composure and returned to the game with intensity.  After 8 minutes, the Hyde team equalized on an outside shot from Kara Fisher ’13.  With renewed spirits, the Hyde team continued to dominate the game and scored their second when Shannon Ward ’14 buried a cross from Carolyn Moore ’14.  Gould had difficulty regaining their attack while Hyde protected their lead to the closing whistle.  Mady Preece ’13 had an outstanding second half as well as senior goal keeper Katie Comeaux ’13.  The Phoenix look forward to hosting CVA this Saturday.
