The community culture at Hyde Leadership Charter Schools is unique. We have values and practices that connect us. The Hyde Foundation has found that the best way to get new teachers and staff ready to lead this community is to immerse them in a Hyde culture for three days. Every member of the faculty/staff is asked to attend one of these retreats near the beginning of their work at Hyde.
Each summer the retreat for faculty and staff is held in either Maine or Connecticut on one of the boarding school campuses. This year the retreat was attended by over 60 representatives from Hyde-Bronx, Hyde-Brooklyn, Hyde-New Haven and Turning Point Academy, a Hyde affiliate in Maryland. This large gathering of Hyde staff offers attendees a sense of the energy and scope of Hyde Leadership Schools.
During the retreat, participants learn about the Hyde Words and Principles, and core Hyde practices like the Hyde Introduction, the Audition, and the seminar. They also have social times to get to know one another and they push themselves physically during a two-hour hike. At the end of three days, the group has had intellectual and experiential exposure to the self-discovery and group connection in a Hyde education.
