Bath: GVS vs. Kents Hill

October 10, 2012

Hyde – 0

Kent’s Hill – 3

Despite the final score, Hyde put together their best 60 minutes of soccer so far this season.  After a week off, they returned to the field inspired and ready to play.  The team’s focus on possession during practices paid off as Hyde controlled much of the mid-field play.  Senior Kara Fischer ’13 led this charge and distributed the ball well to the strikers, creating several scoring attempts.  Mady Preece ’13 returned to sweeper while Heaven Redd ’16, Allie Helfrich ’15 and Emma Leonard ’14 worked hard as marking backs.  Outside midfielder Jenny Morin ’14 maintained the squad’s shape as she carried the ball wide to the corners.  It was a tough fight as the game went scoreless to the half.

Both teams returned strong hunting for the first goal of the game and again it was an end to end battle.  After another scoreless stretch that lasted twenty minutes, the Huskies capitalized on a backfield error and finally broke the silence with a goal.  Obviously rattled, Hyde stalled as the Kent’s Hill squad fired two more balls into the back of the net in under a minute; one on another Hyde error the other on an amazing outside shot.  Despite a three goal deficit, the Phoenix hung in and played hard to the closing whistle.  It was a truly unfortunate end to a game well played and served as inspiration for the potential of this team.
