Hyde – 6
Dexter – 3
Despite a late night of travelling from Bath and a long bus ride into the Boston area, the Hyde Wolfpack managed to find the energy to top a resilient Dexter squad 6-3 on a windy fall day. The Wolfpack jumped out on the scoreboard just four minutes into the match when flank midfielder Jared Larsen ’13 was dragged down in the box. Senior striker Sean Kokdil calmly stepped up to the penalty stripe and ripped a shot into the top right corner of the roof of the net for a 1-0 advantage. The Wolfpack continued to dictate play for the next fifteen minutes. Larsen struck again as he combined with senior striker Christian Ejiga ’13 for a nice give-and-go, that found Larsen open at the top corner of the box. Jared clinically finished his lefty shot with a low liner tucked just inside the right post for a 2-0 lead. Dexter scored just minutes later to gain some ground on the mighty Wolfpack, but Kokdil managed to strike again off a nifty through ball from central midfielder Jake Hedrick ’14 for a 3-1 advantage. Just seven seconds from halftime, however, central defender Graham Davidson rolled his ankle diving in for a tackle and the ensuing chaos in the penalty box led to a Dexter penalty kick, thus bringing the halftime score to 3-2.
A determined Dexter team tied the score at 3 ten minutes into the second half, exploiting Davidson’s absence in the back. The Wolfpack showed its grit and perseverance, however, as the team rattled off three goals to complete a critical non-conference victory for Hyde. Junior Dawit Kiflemarian slammed home a beautiful header off a Jared Larsen corner kick, while senior striker Christian Ejiga finished two beautiful breakaways with his trademark flare for the dramatic.
After a well-deserved rest, the Wolfpack, 7-4, next takes to the field when it takes on mighty Route 169 rival, Pomfret School, at Pomfret on Wednesday, October 17th at 2:30pm.
