Portsmouth Abbey 14
The Wolf pack traveled to southern Rhode Island on Friday afternoon to take on Evergreen League divisional opponent Portsmouth Abbey School. The game proved to be what Hyde expected, a physical, tough, run-stopping four quarter effort. Hyde took a 13-6 lead into half-time and punched in two more scores in the second half to secure the win.
On the warmest day he’d felt in a couple weeks, PG Jay Watkins ’13 once again carried the offensive load, scoring three of Hyde’s four touchdowns while rushing for well over 100 yards on 22 carries. PG Daniel “Don-Don” Palmer ’13 also scored in the second half and anchored the Wolf pack defense at middle linebacker. Quarterback Conor McLaughlin ’13 played his best offensive game of the season, picking up key first-downs on clutch runs and hitting open receivers Tyquan Ekejiuba ’13, Kyle O’Keefe ’14, and Ben Krassner ’13.
Player of the game goes to freshman guard/defensive tackle Omri West ’16. This 14 year old young man barely left the field and more than held his own on both sides of the ball versus bigger opponents. His contributions this season have been invaluable in terms of his effort and “team first” attitude.
Hyde hits the road for the third straight week next Saturday as they go to Proctor Academy to take on the Hornets. Game time is 2:00pm.
