The cross country team took a short trip down the road to compete in the Marianapolis Invitational. The team competed in a field of 11 teams including Roxbury Latin, Wilbraham and Monson, Pomfret School, Winchendon, Marianapolis, Rectory, MacDuffie, South Kent, Putnam Science, and St. Thomas More. Our guys finished 6th as a team. They were in for a tough meet from the beginning. We decided to rest 3 of our top 7 runners due to colds or minor injuries and allow them to rest up to fight another day. That put the focus on the rest of the pack as we called for them to step up to fill in the spots missing up front. Scott Leonard rose to the occasion beating his personal best by over 30 seconds to place 16th in the field of 130 athletes finishing in 19:55. Sean McCrystal also ran his best race of the season placing 40th in 20:48. Dylan Marx dropped his time by nearly a minute once again, to finish in 21:48 and Tyler Jenkins wrapped up our top 5. I think this meet gave the guys an opportunity to continue to work on bringing the back of our pack up towards the front which will eventually help us become a more competitive team. What they should be most proud of is that when the chips were down, and they were missing some very important members of the team, they rose to the occasion and beat 5 of the 10 teams they ran against. Their morale was high, they didn’t let the setbacks turn into negative attitudes, and they put forth an excellent effort that should help galvanize them as team moving forward. This coming Saturday we travel to Northfield Mount Hermon, hopefully with a full lineup of healthy runners. Wish them luck!
